These essential oils also mean the balm smells delicious without resorting to synthetic fragrance, which makes it suitable for those with sensitive skin. While this Elemis cleanser removes light makeup well, it won’t work on heavier mascara or eyeliner. It does do a great job at ridding your skin of SPF and any dirt that’s accumulated on your face throughout the day, though, leaving your face beautifully cleansed, soft and glowy. What We Love: You’ll get a gentle but effective cleanse and many of the plant-derived ingredients — there are 20! — also offer anti-aging benefits. Even though Dr. Dharamshi recommends this product for very dry skin specifically, it’s actually designed for all skin types, and is especially great for reducing redness and restoring moisture to the skin. Cetaphil’s gentle cleanser is a winner on all fronts. “This face wash wins for being both gentle and effective,” Dr. Mitchell says. “The low suds formula removes impurities without drying out the skin. Additionally, it is unscented and non-comedogenic, making it a particularly excellent face wash for skin that is prone to acne.” While foaming face wash isn’t necessarily bad for dry skin, it’s usually a good idea to avoid it to be on the safe side, unless the product is specifically formulated for dry skin. “If your skin is really dry or sensitive, a foaming cleanser may not be the first or best option (especially depending on the ingredients),” Dr. Mitchell says. “Despite the fact that certain foamy cleansers contain oils or emollients, it is recommended that you use a different type of cleanser.”With that in mind, there are also plenty of gel cleansers that are formulated with hydrating ingredients and are, therefore, totally suitable for dry skin, like CeraVe or Elemis. While foaming cleansers can strip the skin if they contain SLS, you actually don’t need to steer completely clear of foamy face washes as long as they don’t contain strong ingredients. When you have dry skin, moisturizer might be the product you reach for the most. But face wash can be just as important in your skin care arsenal for keeping your skin looking and feeling its best. The nourishing formula is infused with hydrating niacinamide, antioxidant-rich green tea, pomegranate, olive leaf and 20 (!) more plant-derived extracts, many of which are harvested from the Hudson Valley organic farm of founder board-certified dermatologist, Dr. Macrene Alexiades.

If you've ever used a skincare, makeup or beauty product that's made your skin look and feel smoother tempoarily - it's likely contained Silicone. They are a popular class of ingredients found in cosmetics due to their smooth, soft, easy-to-spread and smooth properties that help creates an artificial layer/barrier on top of skin or hair (commonly found in conditioners). Sodium Hydroxide: It is used to help in cleansing your skin. However, it may cause itching or skin irritation [2]. Here’s an annoying little fact about a lot of hydrating face washes: Even though they claim to be good at moisturizing dry skin, they’re often filled with sulfates and ingredients that strip the hell out of your skin barrier (i.e., the protective armor that shields your face from acne, irritation, redness, and dryness). And as someone who spent the majority of her teenage years unknowingly using these questionable formulas, and then spent her adult years attempting to undo the damage, I’ve basically become the unofficial expert on the best face washes for dry skin.

There has been some healthy controversy surrounding them due to a few studies finding paraben presence in breast tumours and breast tissue. However, the majority of the scientific community have deemed these findings non-conclusive due to the limitations of these studies.

You want to use gentle, hydrating cleansers that remove impurities without stripping the skin barrier of all its natural moisturizing factors," explains Washington, D.C.-based dermatologist, Adam Friedman, MD, who recommends grabbing a cleanser that contains humectants like hyaluronic acid and ceramides, "which help keep water in the skin." You should also seek out ingredient lists that are as short as possible, according to NYC-based board-certified dermatologist Brandith Irwin, MD. "For sensitive skin, specifically, you want products that are free of artificial fragrances, parabens, and phthalates," she says. As a result, please note this is only an experimental label that can be best used to possible identify problematic products you have used in the past. It is in no way a perfect identifier nor a predictor in whether or not it will exacerbate or cause fungal acne. It will continue to be worked on as more information and research comes to light. For the same reasons they are popularly used, they are also commonly avoided. Anecdotally, many individuals have reported that Silicones cause/excerbate breakouts, irritation, cause a feeling of skin being unable to breathe, cause clumping of cosmetic products and find it difficult to wash off. As a result, those who find them problematic are avoiding them and increasingly, cosmetic companies are avoiding them as well.

Pityrosporum Folliculitis/Malassezia folliculitis or simply known as Fungal Acne is a persistent acne-like condition that commonly responds poorly to traditional acne-treating methods. Unlike most cases of Acne where bacteria is the culprit, Fungi is the culprit of Fungal Acne (Hence the name!). There are certain classes & groups of ingredients that have been shown to promote and feed the growth of the Fungal Acne, Fungi such as fatty acids, oils, esters, polysorbates and fermented ingredients.
