About this deal

also—i cannot recommend the audiobook enough! it’s narrated by the majorly talented Julia Whelan and per usual she did an amazing job. top 5 audiobooks of all time for me without a question! So many questions and so much uncertainty — I couldn’t help but be reminded of the early days of the (still ongoing) pandemic. Times of uncertainty can reveal people’s true characters. After receiving short strings, many characters try to imagine the way they might die. If these characters received a second box telling them how they would die, do you think they would open it?

Just six inches wide, and three inches deep-each contained a string which revealed the MEASURE of your life. Your FATE disclosed by the length of your string. This book literally blew my mind! It’s absolutely thought provoking, intriguing, mind numbing! My emotions are everywhere! I think I didn’t care about the mystery centered on boxes that include strings which predict the measure of a person! I cared more about the characters, their suffer, their adaptation to the new normal and their new life stories!

One morning, adults around the world find on their doorstep (or outside their tent, or next to their shelter bed) a box labeled with their name. Inside is a piece of string whose length, it turns out, represents their life span. Short strings, long strings, medium strings — every person over 21 receives one, delivered in strange containers that materialize out of nowhere. As the weeks go by and data is gathered, scientists declare the strings to be accurate in forecasting how long their recipients will live. Some people choose to look at their strings; others throw the unopened boxes off bridges, preferring not to know how much time they have left. You wake-up to begin your day like any other, but today you find a mysterious box outside your door. Inside is either a short string or a long string that measures the remainder of years in your life. Would you open your box? She added, "I know it sounds like a book about death but really it’s a book about how we choose to live." Do you think the strings were intended to be used to make such precise measurements? If you received a string, would you rather know exactly what it means or have a vague idea of what it means? The Measurecharts the dawn of this new world through an unforgettable cast of characters whose decisions and fates interweave with one another: best friends whose dreams are forever entwined, pen pals finding refuge in the unknown, a couple who thought they didn’t have to rush, a doctor who cannot save himself, and a politician whose box becomes the powder keg that ultimately changes everything.

But today, when you open your front door, waiting for you is a small wooden box. This box holds your fate inside: the answer to the exact number of years you will live. Remarkably, one day everyone aged 22 or over receives a small box on their doorstep. Inside the box is a string. What does this mean? Why do some people have shorter strings and others have longer strings? And where did the strings come from? Inevitably, some people deal with their new knowledge honorably, while others go off the deep end. Discrimination rears it’s ugly head. Relationships change. How do you manage life’s risks if you know your string status? When the boxes arrive, many people believe they are a hoax. Would you have believed in the boxes’ supernatural powers immediately? Why or why not?

One day, a little wooden box arrives for each person on the planet, no matter where they are. Inside is their name and a piece of string. It soon becomes clear that the length of the string stands for the length of their life. How will society cope with such knowledge? Will it ultimately strengthen bonds or break them apart? This measure aims to improve and simplify small businesses’ experience of reporting in Self Assessment by extending eligibility for the cash basis, encouraging its use where appropriate, and making the rules for the regime easier to understand and apply.

Hank is a short-stringed surgeon at New York Memorial Hospital. Hank is devastated by the appearance of the strings because he feels that his role as a surgeon is obsolete as the birth and death of his patients are predetermined. Hank joins the short-stringer support group rather than the support group for people with very short strings because the latter group feels too sad of an environment for him. He keeps the truth from everyone except Ben and Anika, his ex-girlfriend who is a surgeon at the same hospital. Hank dies by jumping in front of an assailant's gun at Anthony Rollins's rally in NYC. Hank's lungs are donated to a patient at the hospital who has been waiting on a lung transplant. Amie Roughly 10 years after the strings' arrival, Maura died. Although grieving, Nina did not despair. She and Maura had made a happy life together despite its brief duration. Not long later, Amie and Ben, who had created a family together, also died. Nina adopted their young children. For the first time in her life, she was able to find peace, joy, and beauty in the present moment. i also LOVEDDDDD how every character was intertwined someway. it gave me LOVE, ACTUALLY (the movie) vibes and was so fun to see it play out. The cash basis is a method that businesses can use to calculate trading profits for income tax purposes, as an alternative to using traditional ‘accruals’ accounting. The cash basis is a simplified regime that reduces the complexity of reporting income to HMRC while still providing an appropriate measure of trading profits for many businesses.

How to take a single measurement

A stranger recently told me that she didn’t want to waste any time feeling sad. She just wanted to live as much life as possible. And I think that’s as good a measure as any.” The characters stories were woven together very well. I thought that their reactions to the ‘new normal’ was conveyed in a very individual and believable way. The societal reactions/discriminations would’ve felt much less plausible if the past several years had not mirrored it so closely.” The characters story’s were woven together very well.
